The Welfare Society Tibetan Chamber of Commerce was formed on the 18th June, 2005 at the aconference organized at the Golden Hut Resort, Gurgaon by the Department of Finance of Central Tibetan Administration.The conference was attended by Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche, Kalon Lobsang Nyandak Zayul and special Envoy Lodi Gyari. More than 50 people representing diverse groups of business, Including carpet exporters, hoteliers and tours and travel agents in India and Nepal, attended the two day conference.On 7th October 2005, the Chamber of Commerce was registered as Welfare Society Tibetan Chamber of Commerce under the Societies Act XII of 1860 in Delhi.
Why was the Chamber formed?
In the month of December 2004, a survey was conducted by the Finance Department, in which almost 81% of total respondents agreed that an association of Tibetan Businessmen is needed for the betterment of the Tibetan and Himalayan Region Business community.The Chamber was formed mainly to undertake activities and steps to enhance and benefit the business interests of the Chamber’s members and the Tibetan, Himalayan Region business and general Tibetan community as a whole. Also, the Chamber aims to support the new and emerging Tibetan and Himalayan Region entrepreneurs in future through interaction and cooperation within and outside the Chamber.
